I have waited the whole day but still no answer to your query.Hope you don't mind if I ask on your behalf at Ask Metafilter, Alaya.
I am sure we will know soon enough.I hope to wake up to an answer.

I was right! I woke up to answers about your strange tree.:)
Alaya, I have posted the question on Ask Metafilter and there were quite a number of responses.
You can read them here. I knew the Mefites will not let us down. Solomon is probably right, as said Hopperfan. You probably can get confirmation from the Botanical Garden people.

And I really must visit the Bogor Botanical Garden one day :)

Indian Fig tree.

Yes, it is a Ficus. Birds love to eat the figs on the tree I believe.
The bow-tie shaped leaves on lower right belongs to the lower tree Bauhinia which has loverly magenta, pink or white flowers sometimes.
Bogor Botanical Garden is my favourite place to be. There are lots of unique plants inside. Go to my blog if you are interested in seeing more plant pictures under label trip recap.

I know this fruit.
At my childhood in kompong/village my mum always make candy/manisan from this fruit.
First we throw out the seef, and then we soak in warm water with some salt.
Then we boil some sugar, after boiled we soak the fruit for several day
we repeat this for a week or more
After that it is ready to eat

I have seen this tree in Malaysia too. I don't know the name but I like eating the pickle made from this fruit. I use to eat them a lot during my school days.
