carving in resto solo

if you're into javanese food, i recommend you to go to resto solo (resto = restaurant, solo = name of a city in central java). the restaurant is in a javanese joglo style building made of timber. the price of the food is very reasonable and the staff there are very friendly. i'll post more about this restaurant later.

bread

It's a box of mini bread. I don't know why the they call it roti unyil (roti means bread). Maybe because these bread are as cute as unyil.

flows

The Ciliwung River that flows through Bogor Botanical Garden is one of two big rivers in Bogor. During the rainy season, the water level increase and bring a big flood to Jakarta.

meet the queen

If you have time to visit Bogor Botanical Garden, do not forget to meet the queen of the garden. The Titan Arum or Amorphophallus titanium called bunga bangkai in Indonesia language (bunga means flower, while bangkai means corpse or cadaver) is indigenous only to tropical forests of Sumatera.

daily

Daily Photo reminds me to a cafe, Daily Cafe, located just in front of Bogor Botanical Garden entrance. I usually hang out there with my friends after working hours.

a shy pangolin

I saw it while walking on the roadside near Bogor Palace. It's a Sunda Pangolin, commonly found in many South-East Asian nations. The owner captured it from a mountain outside Bogor and brought there for sale.

rain

if you ask an indonesian about bogor, the first thing come out from his mind probably about the rain city. bogor has more rain than any other cities in indonesia. during the rain season, it rains on every single day. the photo was taken from the window of my car during the rain.

kujang

it's kujang statue, the landmark of bogor.
kujang is traditional knife of bogor peoples long long time ago. we rarely used it anymore.

standing bunny

i met this bunny in a pet shop. she was different from other bunnies because she tried to keep standing on her two feet.

bunga

bunga means flower. it is written on a facade of a shop in botani square, selling girl's accessories.

queue to bogor

this queue was on jagorawi toll road just before the gate to enter bogor. during the weekends, people from jakarta escape the hectic city to surrounding area like bogor which is only about 60 km away from jakarta.

nasi timbel

i'm in bali now, but i try to update this blog whenever i get internet connection...

nasi timbel is one of the most favorite sundanese cuisine. we have this one at gili-gili restaurant. the green box in the middle is rice, wrapped in banana leaves.

in the background is shrimp salad. it's pink and it's not sundanese.

say it with flower

like always, i don't know the name of this flower, but i love the color and the beautiful pattern on it. you can find dozens of this flower planted in front of botani square.

bike to work

we try to save the world by creating less air pollution environment with "bike to work" campaign.
here is in front of botani square mall.

ketupat

today is the biggest holiday in indonesia. we call the day lebaran or idul fitri.
in the photo is ketupat, a box made of coconut leaves, later will be filled with rice then boiled in water. ketupat is the typical food for this day, every household has to have this food.

sunset in sentul

we were passing sentul housing area when we saw this awesome sunset. we stopped the car and captured the moment.

empty street

don't worry about traffic jam.. we still have an empty street surrounded by big trees.
the green vehicle here is an angkot, a popular public transportation in bogor.

kolak

kolak is the most favorite dessert for breaking fast during ramadhan. it's banana or other thing dipped in the mixture of palm sugar liquid and coconut milk. usually kolak is sold in plastic bags like this or in plastic cups.

traffic jam at night

for those who come to bogor, i suggest to avoid this street if possible. this kapten muslihat street is always crowded day and night because of too much angkot (small public transportation) there.

firework for sale

during ramadhan, people start selling fireworks. children love to play with them at night (and i love it too). nowadays fire crackers are forbidden, so we only find firework for sale like in the stall near taman yasmin (jasmine garden) residental area.

all about cookies

people preparing cookies for the big day at the end of ramadhan. some people make them themselves and the other just simply buy them. i tried to make my own. these ones were ready to bake!

feeding time

the dutch governor who used to live in bogor palace during dutch colonial time, imported a 2 deers from nepal. now, there are about 600 deers living in the front yard of bogor palace. this place is closed for public, but people can see the palace and the deers through the fence. during the weekend people sellling carrots to feed the deer.

it's actually "Istana Bogor" (bogor palace), one of our president's house.
The original colonial building on the site of Istana Bogor was a mansion named Buitenzorg (also Sans Souci), which was built from August 1744 as a country retreat for the Dutch Governors, including also a period of British administration.
